The city of Freeman got an early Christmas present last week; it was awarded a state energy efficiency grant to help fund the installation of the geothermal heating/cooling system at the city-owned Freeman Community Center.

City Administrator Dennis Nelsen told the Courier he received word from the state Bureau of Administration last week that $118,671.24 was allocated to the city for the project. This is the second grant received for the geothermal system and came about because there was unused money in the state coffers for projects like this.
