Alan Dean Hamm was born Aug. 17, 1956, at Beatrice Neb., to Donald and Miriam (Glanzer) Hamm.

He passed away Nov. 20, 2012 after a short battle with merkel cell cancer.

Alan graduated from Bridgewater High School, Bridgewater, S.D., and worked for custom harvesters for a few years.

On June 24, 1978, he married Laurie Pullman at Huron, S.D. Following their marriage they lived in Raymond and Doland, S.D., and in Huron. Alan and Laurie were part owners of the Doland De-hy plant in Doland from 1980-86. Alan then worked for Terex and for the last 10 years had been the owner and manager of Dakota Precision Machining in Huron.

Alan taught Sunday school for many years. He was commander of the Awana program at Bethesda Church for 16 years and considered that area of the church his ministry. Teaching children about the Lord and leading them to Christ was his passion in life. He enjoyed long trips on his Harley motorcycle and valued the time he could spend with family, especially his granddaughter, Kherington.

Alan is survived by his wife, Laurie of Huron; his three children: Michelle Ham, Orlando, Fla., Brenten Hamm Huron, and Jordan and wife Kari Hamm Minneapolis, Minn.; his granddaughter Kherington Hamm, Huron; his mother Miriam Hamm, Freeman, S.D.; two brothers: Joe and wife Janis Hamm, St. James, Minn., and Sid and wife Donna Hamm, Grabill, Ind.; one sister, Joyce and husband Rick Palmateer, Topeka, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The funeral was held Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. at Bethesda Church in Huron with Rev. Roy Burket officiating. Music was provided by Gayle Hofer, pianist, with Ranae and Stuart Hofer, Steve VerBurg and Billie Sargent as vocalists. Sheri Gross and Kim Cobb gave tributes. Casket bearers were Skip Glanzer, Todd Glanzer, Doug Tschetter, Dana Valer, Jory Glanzer, Chad Glanzer, Norland Hofer and Brent Kleinsasser. Interment was at Ideal Cemetery in Huron.
