PRIDE WINS; RAZORBACKS LOSE IN WILD ONE

Top-ranked Canistota/Freeman trailed De Smet by a touchdown going into the fourth quarter, but a 5-yard run by Tyce Ortman put the Pride ahead 14-12 and the two-time defending champions held off the Bulldogs for a dramatic road win Friday night, Aug. 28.

Ortman was in on Canistota/Freeman’s only other score of the night — a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tate Tieszen in the first quarter to give the Pride the early lead.

The Pride posted 240 of total offense — 147 of which came from Ortman — while De Smet rolled up 216 yards. Isaiah Robertson and Tiesen both recorded six solo tackles while Collin Helma and Riley Helberger each had five.

Also Friday night, Menno/Marion lost a heartbreaker to Bon Homme 45-42. The Razorbacks built a multi-touchdown lead in the first half and led the Cavaliers 36-16 going into the fourth quarter. Bon Homme scored on its first drive the final period, Menno/Marion failed to convert a 4th and 1, Bon Homme scored again and then the Razorbacks threw an interception. The Cavaliers took a 37-36 lead with 6 minutes to play, but Menno/Marion answered with a touchdown on 4th and goal with 42 seconds left to reclaim the advantage at 42-37.

But the Razorbacks couldn’t stop Bon Homme on its final drive of the night and ended up falling short, 45-42, to drop to 0-2 on the season.
