VB REPORT: FLYERS WIN; ‘CATS, WOLVES LOSE

Freeman Public moved to a 2-0 early in this volleyball season with a straight-set win over Irene-Wakonda in Freeman Tuesday night, Sept. 1. The Flyers won 25-13, 25-20, 25-20.

Seniors Rijjy Peterson and Oddy Pankratz each had eight kills to lead Freeman and Pankratz added five set assists and seven digs while Peterson tallied five aces. Mesa Mehlhaf contributed four kills, Cara Maske had 13 set assists, Kate Miller had three blocks and Peterson and Lily Wipf had five digs apiece.

The Flyers travel to Howard on Thursday.

FA/Marion opener

Freeman Academy/Marion opened its 2020 season at Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday. The Bearcats lost in straight sets, 25-9, 25-2, 26-24. Freshman Zenovia Butler led FA/Marion with three kills, eight digs and three aces. Maria Cortes had four set assists, Sarah Cremer had four digs and Alivea Weber had two kills and two aces for the Bearcats, who host Menno in Marion on Thursday.

Menno falls

Also Tuesday, Menno dropped to 1-1 with a 0-3 loss to Tripp-Delmont/Armour; the Knighthawks beat the Wolves 25-21, 25-20, 25-15.
