BIG DAYS AHEAD IN MENNO
JEREMY WALTNER – PUBLISHER
Those living in the Menno community as well as the surrounding area will want to mark their calendars for two big upcoming events in town — the Menno Volunteer Fire Department Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 19 and the Pioneer Power Show the following weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27.
CAR SHOW
This will be the fifth annual car show and will once again be held on Fifth Street. Registration will begin at 2 p.m. in the fire hall with the show running from 3 to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Specialty and first-, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in a host of categories.
There will also be a bean bag tournament, with registration from 1 to 2 p.m. Call 605-366-0086 or 605-760-0518 to register; a 60% payout will be awarded the top three teams.
The fire department will also be serving ribs inside the fire hall and live music will be provided by Mean Streak well into Saturday evening. All activities will be downtown.
Those with questions about the car show should call 605-660-5823.
POWER SHOW
For the 34th time in as many years, the Pioneer Power Show will welcome men, women and children of all ages to town for a display of power and a host of other activities over two days. The Pioneer Acres grounds on the north side of Menno will once again be the location for the event that typically draws thousands.
This year’s show will feature a new building called the Carousel House that holds a Theel 18 horse carousel that will be available for rides. The featured tractor is the Minneapolis Moline and Chevrolet will be the featured car/truck model. Featured engines are Gade.
The show begins with registration at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 and the day’s activities concluding with an antique tractor pull and mini rod pull at 3 p.m.
Sunday will begin with the Menno Community Club’s pancake breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. Activities will continue through the day, with the final event at 3:30 p.m. featuring a pickup and exhibitor tractor pull.
