YES THEY CAN! PRIDE MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW

In a year without much to celebrate, Canistota/Freeman gave its fans and communities something to cheer about in a big way with another Class 9A state championship Thursday night, Nov. 12.

Competing against Warner at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, the Pride used rushing touchdowns in the second and third quarter from senior quarterback Tyce Ortman and a huge goal line stand from a stellar defense in the fourth to claim a 12-0 win over the Monarchs for their third-straight state championship.

Canistota/Freeman, the No. 4 seed, finishes the 2020 season 11-1 while No. 3 Warner finishes 10-1.

Ortman’s touchdown runs came on 7 and 64 yards and the Pride’s defensive stand prevented the Monarchs from making it a one-score game early in the fourth quarter. Up against a first-and-goal situation, the Pride stuffed the Monarchs on four running plays to regain possession and ultimately preserve the shutout win.

Stay tuned for a full report.
