FLYERS ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND

A game that went back and forth in the first half gave way to Freeman Public dominance in the second as the Flyers ran away with a 55-40 win over Canistota in the first round of the Region 5B Girls Basketball Tournament Monday night, Feb. 22 in Freeman.

After playing to a 21-21 halftime tie, No. 8 Freeman outscored the No. 9 Hawks 15-11 in the third quarter before turning on the burners and winning the final eight minutes 19-8 to seal the deal. Canistota finishes the season 6-15.

The Flyers, now 6-14, will travel to Hurley to face top-seed Viborg-Hurley (15-4) Tuesday night in Hurley. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Also Monday night, No. 11 Freeman Academy/Marion (2-20) lost to No. 6 Alcester-Hudson (8-12) 44-20.
