PHOTO OF THE DAY: SERVING THE DISH

Morgan Edelman makes a pass on a fast break in the first half of Menno’s second-round Region 2B game against No. 7 Centerville Tuesday night, Feb. 23 in Menno. The Wolves won the game, but it was too close for comfort for the local fans. Menno led 43-36 and extended that lead to 10 points early in the fourth quarter, but Centerville raced back and had a three-point attempt in the closing seconds that would have tied the game. Instead, Menno sophomore Abby Bender got to the free-throw line and connected on one of two, which made it a two-possession game with just seconds to play and put it out of reach for the Tornados. Menno won 46-42. The second-seed Wolves will face third-seed Scotland Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Irene for a chance to play in next week’s SoDak 16. It is one of two region finals; the other features No. 1 Viborg-Hurley against No. 4 Bridgewater-Emery.

Jesse Munkvold led Menno against Centerville with 21 points – 16 of which came in the first half. Morgan Edelman had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and nine steals for the Wolves, who shot 35% from the field and 47% from the free-throw line.
