14U, AMATEUR BASEBALL UPDATE HERE

Canistota/Freeman knocked off Baltic 6-1 in the nightcap of the opening round of the VFW State 14U Baseball Tournament in Freeman Friday, July 23 — the last of four games played. The others included:

Parkston 16, Onida 6
Canova 5, Salem 2
Clark 16, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 14 (extra innings)
Action continues beginning at noon on Saturday and is as follows. Games will be played on a rolling schedule.

Onida vs. Salem/Montrose 
Mt. Vernon/Plankinton vs. Baltic
Parkston vs. Canova
Canistota/Freeman vs. Clark
Sunday’s games begin at noon and will also be played on a rolling schedule:

Consolation championship (winners of Saturday’s first two games)
Third/fourth-place game (losers of Saturday’s second two games)
Championship (winners of Saturday’s second two games)
Amateur baseball

No. 7 seed Menno lost to No. 2 Wynot 6-2 in the opening round of the District 6A Amateur Baseball Tournament in Tabor Friday night, July 23. The Mad Frogs will play in an elimination game Sunday, July 25 against No. 6 Irene beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Freeman, meanwhile, will play in an elimination game Thursday, July 29 at 6 p.m., after losing its opening game 7-6 against Tabor on Thursday night. The Blacksox will face either No. 3 Lesterville or No. 2 Wynot.

All district games are being hosted by Tabor.
