He married Dona Ortman and they had three daughters. He married Mary Carlson and gained two stepdaughters. He and Mary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling together to name a few favorite things. They also belong to Volunteer Christian Builders and so enjoyed doing many fun projects in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

Happy to have shared his life are his wife Mary, Rachel (Brady and Evvie) Calvin, Renae (Nate) Gruenwald, Linda (Dave) Seline, Lisa (Lance and children) Minor, Lori (Chris and children) Ask, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Dave (Christi) Wharton, sister Betty (Bobby) Crouch, and sister Jo Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and one stepdaughter.

A service was held in Rose Hill, Kan., on July 18 and is also scheduled to be held at Bethesda Mennonite Church west of Marion on Friday, July 23 at 2 p.m.
