The St. Peter Lutheran Church west of Parkston is pictured on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 24 — one day before the traditional holiday set aside to say “thanks” for life’s blessings. The 2021 holiday comes 400 years after the 1621 story of Pilgrams feasting with Wampanoag at Plymouth Colony, the impetus for a Thanksgiving celebration established for all states by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. The holiday has been held the fourth Thursday of November since Franklin D. Roosevelt and Congress passed a joint resolution declaring it so in 1942.
