Juletta Osterberg: 1945-2021

Juletta M. Osterberg, 76, of Salem, S.D., passed away on Nov. 30, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 6 at Trinity Community Church in Bridgewater, S.D.

Juletta Hofer was born to Alvin J. and Mary Ann (Stahl) Hofer on Oct. 31,1945 at her family farm and home in Bridgewater. She was baptized with her brothers in the James River on Aug. 5, 1956, as a member of the Salem Mennonite Brethren Church. As a child in 1953, she was bedridden with Rheumatic Fever and completed her schoolwork from a hospital bed. Juletta attended Fluth Country School, graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1963, and then attend Hub City Bible Institute in Aberdeen, S.D.

She married R. Dionn Osterberg on Jan. 28,1969 in Mitchell, S.D. Together, they made their home on a farm north of Salem raising beef cattle, hogs, and crops. She loved spending time outside in her vegetable and flower gardens and sharing garden produce and gladiolas with others. She planted many evergreen and fruit trees. Juletta cherished her life on the farm. She would reminisce about milking cows in a dress and rubber boots, even on the coldest of days when she was a child.

After many years on the farm, in 1989, Juletta began employment at Ravens Industry and then later worked as a CNA for Colonial Manor nursing home in Salem. She had a passion for caring for people and was known for her generosity. As a great cook and baker, she also hosted many family gatherings. Attending church and enjoying music were some of Juletta’s most treasured times. In addition, she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved watching them participate in various activities. She treasured being a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Juletta’s top priority was serving God and was a firm believer in the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Juletta is survived by her children: Russell Osterberg (Denise) of Vermillion, S.D., Crystal (Kevin) Nash of Chelsea, S.D., Jerry (Laura) Osterberg of Salem and Lee (Michelle) Osterberg of Fowler, Kan.; grandchildren: Robert (Casey) Osterberg and their children Kennedy and Gracen; Heidi (Nathan) Evilsizer, Megan and Austin Nash, Jacob, Hannah, and Lane Osterberg and Shean Myers and daughter Myla Rose and Shandis Myers; siblings: Robert L. Hofer, Wanda (Rick) Nelson, and Arliss (Michael) Noble; sister-in-law Linda Hofer; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Allen, niece Corrine, infant nephew Marvin, infant niece Lori, and several cousins along with many aunts and uncles.
