Lori Geier: 1970-2022

Lori Y. (Davis) Geier, the daughter of Howard and Carolyn Davis, was born Jan. 8, 1970 and died Jan. 3, 2022. She had a hard-fought battle at Avera McKennen Hospital but lost that battle. Lori is at peace now and will always be remembered for her bright smile and loving nature.

Lori’s love of animals took her to the Pedigree Career Institute where she studied pet grooming and care. She was one of the top graduates of her class and turned that into a rewarding life, when Lori opened Lori’s Pet Grooming in Freeman, S.D. — one of her biggest dreams had come true.

On May 31, 1994, Lori married Robert Geier whom she met in Anchorage, Alaska. They were married for 27 years. They lived in Kentucky, Tennessee and Colorado before settling into Freeman as their home. Lori loved the people and the community here.

Lori’s love for animals and the outdoors meant she spent a great deal of time outdoors in here leisure time. Lori loved to go camping and hiking. She enjoyed hunting and shooting sports when she was younger. Lori especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her other great love was her shop. Lori never felt like she was at work when she was in the shop grooming people’s pets; it is what she loved to do. She had been taking care of other people’s dogs since she was 14 years old — even before going to school for it.

Celebrating Lori’s life are her husband, Robert; her father, Howard; her mother, Carolyn; her sisters: Sherri, Karon, Diane and Esther; her son, Michael; daughters: Heather and Echo, and her grandchildren: Aurora, John Jr., Edwin, Michael and Elianna.

A memorial service will be held later this spring.
