PETITIONS FOR CITY, SCHOOL DUE END OF NEXT WEEK

A reminder that those seeking election or re-election to the city council or school must have their signed petitions turned in by the end of the day Friday, Feb. 25. A number of petitions had been turned in as of early this week:

Incumbents Charles Gering (Ward I) and Steve “Charly” Waltner (Ward 2) have turned in petitions for re-election, according to city finance officer Doug Uecker. Other vacancies include seats held by Mayor Michael Walter and councilors Terry Jacobsen and Tabitha Schoenwald (both Ward 3).
No petitions have been turned in for Menno City Council, according to finance officer Lisa Edelman. Expiring terms are seats held by Mayor Darrell Mehlhaf, and aldermen Scott Simonsen (Ward I), Jerry Fischer (Ward 2) and George Cokens and John Huber (both Ward 3).
For Freeman School Board, Cody Spangler has submitted a petition for election to a 3-year-term, according to business manager Debbie Goossen. Terms expiring are those held by Slade Ammann and Kyle Weier.
And business manager Dale Weiss said two petitions have been turned in for Menno School Board by Tim Freier (2-year term) and Kathlene Wollmann (3-year term). Three seats that will become vacant are currently held by Jill Haberman, Barry Schmidt and Brent Rames.
