WATERMAN CHALLENGING WALTNER

JEREMY WALTNER  – PUBLISHER

Terry Waterman is challenging Steve “Charly” Waltner for his seat in Ward 2 on the Freeman City Council. Both have filed petitions for election, according to the city finance office. Theirs will be the only local election on the April 12 ballot.

Waterman lost his bid for mayor in an election with Michael Walter two years ago.

Also for the city of Freeman, Walter is unopposed in his bid for re-election and will serve another 2-year term as mayor. Charles Gering in Ward 1 (2-year term), Tabitha Schoenwald (1-year term) in Ward 3 and Doug Uecker (2-year term) in Ward 3 have also all filed petitions for re-election and will begin their new terms in May.

Terry Jacobsen did not file a petition for another term in Ward 3.

Council president Blaine Saarie and councilor Clifford “Lonnie” Tjaden each have one more year in their terms of office.

Freeman School Board

There will be two new members of the Freeman School Board when the governing body reconvenes for a new fiscal year this July. Karissa Podzmick and Cody Spangler have both filed petitions for election to the three-year terms.

Slade Ammann and Kyle Weier, who currently serve on the board, did not seek re-election.

Podzmick and Spangler will join board members Cody Fransen and Doug McCune, and board president Emily Andersen.
