A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 29 at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel, Marion, with burial at the West Vermillion Cemetery, rural Dolton, S.D.

Darleen was born July 10, 1932 to John J. and Anna (Duerksen) Gossen at Dolton. She attended Dolton Grade School and graduated from Marion High School in 1950. From March of 1951 to January 1962 she was employed at Elpert’s Store and the Dolton Post Office. On August 2, 1963, Darleen was united in marriage to Vernon V. Ortman and became a farmer’s wife. She joined the Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren and continued involvement in the church. Vernon and Darleen volunteered their time wherever they were needed. They traveled to Comer, Ga., and worked with Jubilee Partners assisting with Refugees. They also went to Ten Thousand Villages in Akron, Pa., and volunteered there.

In August of 1995 they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. and joined the Lincoln Hills Bible Church. They also volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission from 1997 to 2006.

Grateful for having shared her life is her sister-in-law, Loraine Ortman, and a host of nieces and nephews. Darleen is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents John and Anna Gossen; sister Luella (Walter) Hofer; brothers Edwin (Marilyn) Gossen and Harry (Elma) Gossen; and infant brother and sister.
