Freeman Academy/Marion’s Quincy Blue passes the baton to Tavin Schroeder on the first exchange of the 4×800 relay at Thursday’s Flyer Invitational. The team of Blue, Schroeder, Malachi Myers and Thalen Schroeder dominated the race, winning in a time of 8:45.89 and almost 30 seconds faster than runner-up Menno. The Bearcats’ effort in the race gives them the fastest time in the state as they leapfrogged Wessington Springs’ time of 9:01.80. The FAM medley relay team of Liam Ortman, Seth Balzer, Blue and Thalen Schroeder also won at the Flyer Invitational on Thursday, helping the Bearcats finish fourth in 18-team meet.

Other local winners were:

Menno’s Owen Eitemiller in the pole vault (12-0)
FAM’s Jada Koerner in the 1600 (5:45.00)
