WOLVES STRONG AT ERV PTAK RELAYS

Menno finished in the top half of the team standings in both the boys and girls divisions of its very own Erv Ptak Relays — one of two home track and field meets being hosted this season by the Wolves. The girls finished third among nine teams and the boys were fifth among 10 at the April 28 meet.

Owen Eitemiller won the pole vault by going 12-7, which according to the top performance list at athletic.net, is the best in Class B, surpassing the 12-6 mark posted by Gayville-Volin’s Andrew Gustad. Four other pole vaulters from Menno placed in the top eight and, counting the girls, the Wolves accounted for eight of the 12 medals awarded in the event.

Eitemiller also finished second in the 110 hurdles, third in the 400 and anchored the 1600 relay to fifth.

Raygen Diede was once again a double-winner for the Wolves, finishing first in the discus with a heave of 130-9 and second in the shot put with a throw of 38-7. Diede has the top Class B showing in the discus and is second in the shot put with a 38-7 — just one inch behind Danielle Hawley of Estelline/Hendricks.

Ashton Massey was also an individual champion for Menno, winning the 300 hurdles in 49.47; she was also third in the 100 hurdles.

Menno’s other winning performance last week came in the 1600 relay as Ashton Massey, Bridget Vaith, Julia Buechler and Kaelie Derby clocked a 4:35.5 — just ahead of Canistota’s time of 4:36.86.

Other top performances at the Erv Ptak Relays included Kadeyn Ulmer, who was second in both the 200 and the 400; and Brayden Sattler, who finished second in the high jump; Bianca Fischer, who was second in the pole vault; and Alana Fergen, who was second in the discus.
