FAM BOYS 4X800 RELAY HIGHLIGHTS FIRST DAY

Student-athletes from Freeman Academy/Marion, Freeman Public and Menno all earned medals on the first day of the three-day, all-class 2022 State Track Meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls Thursday afternoon, May 26.

The top prize of the day went to the FAM boys 4×800 relay team of Quincy Blue, Malachi Myers, Tavin Schroeder and Thalen Schroeder. Not only they win the event, the Bearcats did so in 8:22.75 — 10 seconds better than their incoming best, which was tops in the field. This is the second year in a row the boys 4×800 meter relay team from FA/Marion ran away with the state championship.

The FA/Marion girls 4×800 relay team of Estelle Waltner, Emma McConniel, Sonora Myers, Jada Koerner also medaled on Thursday, finishing fifth in a time of 10:10.34.

Menno senior Raygen Diede placed second in the shot put for the second year in a row thanks to a heave of 38-3 ½, which came in the finals.

Menno junior Owen Eitemiller finished third in the pole vault after clearing 13-3, and Menno’s Isaac Fergen and Freeman Public’s Jorgen Baer, both sophomores, tied for eighth in the event after going 11-0.

And the girls and boys sprint medley relays from Freeman Academy/Marion both advanced to Saturday’s finals, finishing third and fifth, respectively, in Thursday’s preliminary race.  

Also competed on Thursday were:

The Freeman Public girls medley team of Cami Fransen, Rylee Peters, Kate Miller, Ashlin Jacobsen, which finished 16th.
The Menno girls 4×800 relay team of Ashton Massey, Ellyana Ulmer, Ervin Schorck, Zoe Schaeffer, which finished 16th.
Freeman Public senior Justin Wollman in the 100, who finished 20th.
The Menno boys 4×800 relay team of Cody Munkvold, Chris Kessler, Izayah Ulmer, Kadeyn Ulmer, which finished 23rd.
Marion freshman Emma McConniel in the 100, who finished 23rd.
Menno junior Brayden Sattler in the 100, who finished 23rd.
The Freeman girls 4×100 team of Cami Fransen, Ashlin Jacobsen, Vaida Ammann and Kate Miller, who finished 24th.
