Loxi Wolf: 1949-2022

Loxi L. Wolf age 72 of Hartington, Neb., died on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Arbor Care Center in Hartington.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 6 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial was at St. Anthony’s cemetery in Fairfax, S.D. Pallbearers were Jim Wolf, Jared Wolf, Jon Wolf, Adam Herrboldt, Jake Rempfer, and Ken Kneifl.

Loxi was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Parkston, S.D., to Leo and Delphine (Hein) Laber. She grew up in Freeman, S.D. Loxi spent her elementary years at St. Paul Lutheran Day School and graduated from Freeman High School in 1967. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D., graduating in 1971 with an English major. Later she received her master’s degree from Wayne State in Wayne, Neb., in guidance counseling.

Loxi started her teaching career in Wagner, S.D., then on to Winner, S.D., until she finally made Hartington Public High School her permanent home. Loxi married Jess Wolf in Hartington on June 16, 1989.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Loxi always loved learning and was an avid reader. She also loved to garden and travel. She was the best sister and aunt to her nieces and nephews; she always remembered them and took a genuine interest in their lives. To her sisters, she was always known as Dodie (family nickname). There was never a Loxi without Jess! They were the perfect pair. From their baking at holidays to their love of shopping and giving. When multiple sclerosis came into the picture, Loxi handled it like everything else, with grace. It robbed her so much, but she always had her smile. Loxi had the best care giver in Jess. He took care of her needs with love and commitment. The last year without him, she seemed to decline. There is peace in knowing that on June 16 of this year they will celebrate their anniversary together.

She is survived by sisters: Connie (Vern) Handel, San Antonio, Texas, Loa (Marty) Arno of Vancouver, Wash., Loy (Dan) Herrboldt of Freeman and Haylee (Ron) Ribstein of Spearfish, S.D.; nieces: Tami Hackett, Tiffany Dawson (Jack Abrams); Burgandy (Jake) Rempfer and Katherine (Austen) Erickson; nephews: Robin (Ashley) Handel, Jeremy (Melissa) Herrboldt, Adam (Zora) Herrboldt, Jim (Erin) Wolf, Jared (Amy) Wolf and Jon (Hannah) Wolf; brothers-in law: Jack (Linda) Wolf, Atkinson, Neb., and Jay Wolf and special friend Jill, Spearfish, S.D.; and aunts Beatrice Hein and Lois Laber.

Loxi was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Wolf on Feb. 11, 2021 at the age of 69 years; parents Leo and Delphine Laber; and in-laws Dick and Evelyn Wolf.
