A funeral service was scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, with burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in rural Emery, S.D.

Marvin James Dannenbring was born on Nov. 20, 1942, to Leonhard and Leona (Huber) Dannenbring in Parkston, S.D.

Marvin grew up in the Clayton, S.D. area and was the oldest of eight siblings. He farmed his entire life and enjoyed it. On Dec. 29, 1967, Marvin married Claudia VanderHamm. On Feb. 8, 1987, Marvin married Joye (Hetrick Jones) Dannenbring. They were married for 35 years and combined their families, including Joye’s children: Jane Ann, Janean and Justin.

Marvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter‘s Lutheran Church of Clayton and was a member for over 60 years and held various different offices. Later he moved to Freeman and transferred membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman. He enjoyed playing dart ball at both churches. Marvin was active in the community, serving on the Clayton Township board. Marvin served proudly in the Army National Guard after high school in the Parkston unit. Marvin also enjoyed being a tour director with his wife, Joye, traveling to various places and meeting people. Marvin always took great pleasure spending time with his grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Joye; children: Jane Ann (Darin) Maltsberger of Mt Vernon, S.D.; Tricia (Kirk) Wellman of Sioux Falls; Janean (Jim) Caugherty of Brookings, S.D.; Matthew (Kristi) Dannenbring of Freeman; Lucas (Kayla) Dannenbring of Sioux Falls; Justin (Ariana) Jones of Sioux Falls; 17 grandchildren; two brothers: Harvey Dannenbring and Dan (Chelle) Dannenbring both of Freeman; five sisters: Dorothy Acklam of Denver, Colo.; Diane (Tom) Agnitsch of Aberdeen, S.D.; Twyla (Ralph) Richter of Henderson, Nev.; Janette (Daniel) Brown of Seattle, Wash.; and June Dannenbring of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first spouse, a brother-in-law, and nephew.
