Vernon R. Schempp: 1937-2022

 

Vernon R. Schempp, 85, of Sioux Falls, S.D. passed away Friday July 8, 2022 at Avantara Norton Health Care in Sioux Falls.

Service was held on Thursday, July 14, at Miller Funeral Home. There was a graveside with military rites at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Vernon Reinhold Schempp, son of Reinhold and Anna (Melhalf) Schempp, was born Oct. 24, 1937 in Freeman, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed at the Johannestal Reformed Church. He attended country school in the Freeman area through 8th grade.

He married Laurel Hage April 8, 1961. They lived in Sioux Falls where he worked many different jobs and later was a traveling salesperson going to many shows to sell his products. Vernon was the owner of Schempp Specialties; selling leather goods, military accessories and ad specialties.

Vernon was in the Minnesota National Guard in Luverne, Minn. He was honorably discharged in May of 1962.

Survivors in his family include his sons, Roger and Michael Schempp; two sisters, Leona Schaeffer and Verlinda Rempfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Wilfred Schempp; two brothers-in-law, Calvin Rempfer and Alfred Schaefer; two sisters-in-law, Loraine and Betty; and sister, Gertrude Schempp.
