EXPOS EDGE BLACKSOX FOR DISTRICT TITLE

Wynot came away with the District 6 championship after defeating Freeman 4-2 in amateur baseball action Friday night, July 30 in Freeman.

The Expos and Blacksox both move on to the South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell that starts Aug. 3, Wynot as a district champ and Freeman as Rep. No. 1 coming out of the South Central League.

Also advancing is Tabor as Rep. 2 and Menno as Rep. 3.

The Expos won Saturday night on the shoulders of pitcher Peyton Wieseler, whose complete game included eight strikeouts without a walk. He was also backed by stellar defense; the Expos did not commit an error while making tough plays in the field.

The Blacksox, meanwhile, managed just five hits and didn’t have a baserunner in the sixth, seventh or eighth innings, and a home run by Owen Feser in the bottom of the ninth was Freeman’s first hit since the fifth inning. They also committed three errors.

Freeman left fielder Bailey Sage had an RBI single that scored Jake Weier from third base in the first inning that gave the Blacksox their one and only lead of the game.

Trey Christensen pitched 5 2/3 innings for Freeman and Nate Brohman finished the game.

Stay tuned for state tournament pairings.
