LAKE NORDEN ELIMINATES BLACKSOX

Freeman held a 3-1 lead after five innings but Lake Norden got one back in the sixth, two more in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth en route to a 5-3 victory in the opening round of the 2022 Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell Saturday night, Aug. 6.

The Blacksox had runners on second and third in the ninth inning but couldn’t get the hit they needed to extend — or win — the game. Jake Weier reached base four times and Bailey Sage had a pair of RBI to lead Freeman. Michael Drotzman took the loss for the Blacksox after coming in to relieve starter Blake Schroedermeier. Drotzman struck out six and didn’t walk a batter, but also allowed six hits over 3 1/3 innings pitched, with the Lakers’ final three runs credited to him.

Schroedermeier allowed two runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking one.

Meanwhile, for Lake Norden, Jordon Johnson turned in a complete-game performance in which he delivered 146 pitches — 95 of which were strikes. He allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out 13 and walking two.
