Lorraine Ortman: Died Nov. 14, 2022

Lorraine Ortman, age 96, of Bennington, Neb., formerly of Marion, S.D., moved to her final Heavenly home on Nov. 14, 2022. Preceding her in this journey and waiting to greet her is her husband, Harvey; her parents, Harry and Adeline Kaufman; her brothers, Lawrence and Maynard; and sister Anette; grandsons James and Stuart Berry, and in-laws: Sally Kaufman, Loretta Kaufman, Barbara Kaufman, Marvin and Edna May Ortman, Alvin and Arlyss Ortman, LeRoy Ortman and Arnold Becker.

Looking forward to seeing her again are children, Ken (Sheila), Dona Yankey (David), Dennis (Marlis), Doris Berry (Daniel), Rita Little (Sylvester), Faye Schmidt (Steve) and Loren (Julie); sister Alice Suderman (John), brother Roy, in-laws Larry Eisenbeis, Lorene Kaufman, Edna Becker, Nancy Ortman and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

She is also remembered dearly as a loving grandma to 43 grandchildren and spouses; 39 great-grandchildren and spouses, and three great-great grandchildren, based on the latest count!

Lorraine was born and grew up in the farming community just east of Freeman, S.D., where she spent her life from early on helping others, her family and her community. With her on this journey from age 21 to the present was her husband, Harvey, who she married on June 5, 1947, and with whom she celebrated almost 72 years of marriage. Together, they not only farmed successfully, but also raised a family of seven children and taught them the ways of the Lord. In 2016, Lorraine and Harvey moved to Bennington to an assisted living facility to be closer to their children living in the Omaha area.

To remember and celebrate Lorraine’s life here on earth, there was a graveside service for family only and following that, on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, there was a memorial service open to the public at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Marion.

Memorial donations may be made in Lorraine’s name to LUC Ranch, 296 Boys Ranch Rd, Lampe, MO 65681.
