Donna (Mettler) Sutfin: 1956-2022

Donna (Mettler) Sutfin was born May 20, 1956 in Scotland, S.D. to Herbert & Lorraine Mettler. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Reformed Church, Menno, S.D.

She set out on an adventure to work in Las Vegas and Phoenix, Ariz. In 1986 she returned to SD to live in Lead, S.D. where she worked in various casinos. She met Dan Sutfin and after six years they married, in May 1995. In 2016 they moved to Rapid City, S.D. after Dan’s health started to decline. Donna worked at Runnings in housewares department. In May of 2021 Dan was laid to rest at Sturgis National Cemetery. Donna decided she would like to be near family, so she rented a 26’ U-haul, packed end-to-end, and on July 2, 2022 moved to Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was diagnosed with colon cancer after only one week in her new apartment. It quickly became a downhill struggle. She passed away November 20, 2022 after a four day stay at Dougherty Hospice House.

She is survived by her sister Ruby (Dwight) Johnson, Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law Pat (Jim) Boren and Anita (Merle) Bierschenk, Belle Fourche, S.D. and brother-in-law Kerry (Cathy) Sutfin, Colorado Springs, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Sutfin, her mother and father, 2 brothers-in-law, a niece and a step-granddaughter.

A service afficiated by Pastor Mike McGee of Trinity Reformed Church, Sioux Falls, was held at Chapel Hill Funeral. Donna’s cremated remains will be laid to rest, with her husband Dan, in the National Cemetery, Sturgis, summer of 2023 and a celebration of life will be held at that time.
