WRESTLERS ELIMINATED IN RAPID CITY

Freeman’s three wrestlers competing at the State Wrestling Tournament in Rapid City were all eliminated in the first day of competition Thursday, Feb. 23.

Brody Gossen (106 lbs.), Easton Tschetter (112 lbs.) and Finley McConniel (120 lbs.) all lost their opening-round match late Thursday morning.

Gossen and McConniel stayed alive by winning their respective matches in the first round consolation — Tschetter was eliminated — but both went on to drop their third match Thursday night.

DETAILS

Gossen (32-9) lost his first match to Custer sophomore Tyler Trant (42-10) by fall at 1:21 but defeated Elk Point-Jefferson eighth grader Brody VanRoekel (23-24) by fall at 2:02 in the first-round consolation. Goosen then lost to McCook Central/Montrose sophomore Landon Flogstad (23-9).

Tschetter (35-15) lost his first match to Custer sophomore Tray Weiss (50-3) by fall at 2:19 and then dropped a tough match to Potter County junior Nicholas Schlachter (28-8) on a 4-3 decision.

McConniel (26-2) lost his first his match to Sioux Valley sophomore Tate Steffensen (30-10) by fall at 3:41, won over Clark/Willow Lake seventh grader Austin Vig (19-18) in his consolation match and then lost to Lead-Deadwood sophomore Drew Janke (24-18) by fall at 1:26.
