Clellan Becker: 1942-2023

Clellan Becker, 80 of Marion, S.D., passed away on May 5 at the Freeman hospital. A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, May 10 at First Church of God in Marion.

Clellan Lee Becker was born June 9th, 1942 to Paul and Alma Becker at their farm west of Marion. Clellan completed the family of three brothers, Dwaine and Harlan. Clellan was a member of the Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren Church where he was baptized. He attended grade school and high school in Marion and graduated in 1960. After high school Clellan continued his education at Southern State College in Springfield studying automotive mechanics. Upon completion he went on to serve in the Alternative Service Program in Portland, Ore. for two years.

After his return to Marion, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Kaufman on Sept. 2, 1966. To their union came three children, Chris, Carissa and Cameron. Clellan went on to spend his career in the house moving business. Clellan especially enjoyed designing and manufacturing equipment in his shop to be used in the house moving business. Upon retirement, Clellan enjoyed restoring classic cars and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored the most. Clellan enjoyed volunteering his time to his church with service-related projects-such as World Impact, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and being helpful to whomever needed it.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife JoAnne; children: Chris (Stacey) of Spring Hill, Kan., Carissa (Brent) VanderLey of Chamberlain, S.D., and Cameron (Jennifer) of Marion; and six grandchildren: Jackson Becker, Allison Becker, Grace and Fredrick VanderLey and Paige and Vaun Becker.
