PHOTO OF THE DAY: MUSEUM’S ‘MONDAY ON MAIN’

This week’s Monday on Main feature by Heritage Hall Museum & Archives showcases this classic photo with the accompanying description:

With a “crazy days” feature planned as part of this week’s “Market In the Park, Main Street & More” on Wednesday, we’re sharing this photo of the July 25, 1980 citywide promotion that ran in the Freeman Courier the following week.
The Courier reported “about the only thing you couldn’t find in Freeman Friday, July 25 was a parking space.”
That’s evident from this photo showing the crowds in front of the Coast to Coast store; now the site of the north portion of the Freeman Public Library. The Courier noted more than 30 businesses participated in the event.
We’re grateful to have hard copies of the Freeman Courier from 1960 in our archives and microfilm of most of the issues before that. They are an invaluable resource for our research and guests.
Our archives and museum are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. on weekends through September. But, we’ll be open until 7 on Wednesday this week as part of Market In the Park, Main Street & More.
