STICKS WRAP UP SEASON WITH WIN, 3RD PLACE AT STATE

The 14U Sticks bounced back from a 6-0 semifinal loss to Mt. Vernon/Plankinton with 13-0 win over Platte-Geddes in the third-place game of the S.D. VFW State Tournament held in Corsica over three days starting Friday.

Freeman/Marion scored three runs in both the first and second inning to build an early lead, and pitchers Riley Gall Tayden Kerrigan and Easton Tschetter teamed up to pitch a two-hit shutout.

The Sticks finished with 16 hits, with Gall going 3-for-3 and Kerrigan going 3-4; the two combined for five RBI.

Luke Peters, Alaric Knittel and Hunter Nankival also collected multiple hits for Freeman/Marion, which finished its season 16-3.

Many of those who play on the 14U team will also take the field when the 16U region tournament beings in Freeman on Monday. The Sticks will face Parker in the second game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
