PHOENIX MOVE TO 2-0 WITH ROUT OF IROQUOIS/LAKE PRESTON

The Phoenix offense scored seven touchdowns in the first half and their defense allowed just one first down as Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy rolled to a 50-0 win over Iroquois/Lake Preston in Lake Preston Friday night, Aug. 25.

The game ended at halftime because of the mercy rule and moved the Phoenix to 2-0 on the season. The Sharks dropped to 0-2.

F/M/FA’s first touchdown came on a 7-yard run by Dominic Sperling, with a pass from Riley Tschetter to Jackson Donlan completing the 2-point conversion that made it 8-0. These scoring plays followed:

An 18-yard touchdown pass from Tschetter to Rocky Ammann and a run by Tschetter on the 2-point try;
A 9-yard touchdown pass from Tschetter to Evan Scharberg and another run by Tschetter for the 2-point conversation that made it 24-0 with 3:38 left in the first quarter;
An 8-yard touchdown run by Tschetter;
A 53-yard touchdown pass from Tschetter to Scharberg;
A 33-yard touchdown run by Karter Weber that made it 42-0;
A 46-yard touchdown run by Weber that made it 48-0, and then the 2-point conversion run — also by Weber — that brought the game to its final score with 42 seconds left in the first half.
Tschetter completed 5 of 7 passes for 116 yards.

Weber’s 80 yards rushing on just two carries led the Phoenix ground game, and Tschetter and Sperling ran for 36 and 26 yards, respectively.

Scharberg finished with 62 yards receiving while Tate Sorensen caught a pass for 31 yards.

Sornesen and Luke Peters each had five tackles and Sperling, Harley Crooks and Alaric Knittel had three tackles apiece.

Both teams committed three penalties and there were no turnovers in the game.

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy hosts Avon (2-0) in Freeman Friday, Sept. 1.
