FHS VOLLEYBALL TEAM SWEEPS CORSICA-STICKNEY

The Freeman High School volleyball team bounced back from a 1-2 showing at last week’s Hanson Early Bird Tournament with a straight-set win over Corsica-Stickney in its home-opener Monday night, Aug. 28. The Flyers beat the Jaguars 25-15, 25-11, 25-19 to improve to 2-2 while Corsica-Stickney dropped to 0-5.

Senior Zenovia Butler had a big match for Freeman, tallying 11 kills, 9 digs and a block.

Senior Ashlin Jacobsen had 6 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces while senior Cami Fransen posted 20 set assists and 8 digs.

Juniors Emily Mendel and Ella Waltner and freshman Rylee Peters each had 4 kills, and sophomore Vaida Ammann had 5 assists, 12 digs and 3 aces.

Juniors Erica Sage and Rylee Law added 5 digs and 2 kills, respectively, in what was a well-balanced attack for the home team.

Freeman travels to Irene Tuesday night to face Irene-Wakonda (0-5).
