AUG. 29: FLYERS WIN; BEARCATS, WOLVES FALL

The Freeman High School girls had no trouble with Irene-Wakonda in Irene Tuesday night, Aug. 29, winning in straight sets 25-20, 25-14, 25-19. The Flyers improved to 3-2 while Irene-Wakonda dropped to 0-6. Ella Waltner, Ashlin Jacobsen, Zenovia Butler and Emily Mendel led the attack at the net with 9, 8, 6 and 4 kills, respectively, and Vaida Ammann and Cami Fransen split the set assist responsibilities with 13 and 11, respectively. Here’s the complete line:

Ella Waltner: 9 kills, 4 digs, 1 block

Ashlin Jacobsen: 8 kills, 4 digs

Zenovia Butler: 6 kills, 11 digs, 4 aces

Emily Mendel: 4 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces

Vaida Ammann: 2 kills, 13 set assists, 3 digs, 1 ace

Cami Fransen: 11 set assists, 5 digs, 1 block, 1 ace

Rylee Peters: 1 kill

Rylee Law: 1 kill

Corsica-Stickney tops FA/Marion

Freeman Academy/Marion played Corsica-Stickney in each set but the Jaguars had the edge, winning 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 to improve to claim their first win of the season. The Bearcats dropped to 0-4. Alexa Gortmaker had 6 kills and 3 aces, Isabelle McConniel had 39 set assists and Emma McConniel had 32 digs to lead the way for FA/Marion. Here’s the complete line:

Alexa Gortmaker: 6 kills, 12 set assists, 3 aces

Kallie Johnson: 2 kills, 8 digs

Emma McConniel: 32 digs

Macy Gortmaker: 9 digs

Freeman Academy/Marion travels to Menno Thursday night.

Menno falls to TDA

Menno won the first and third set with relative ease but Tripp-Delmont/Armour took the match as the Wolves opened their home season Tuesday night. Set score went in favor of the Nighthawks 13-25, 25-23, 13-25, 25-14, 15-11.

T-D/A improved to 2-0 while the Wolves dropped to 2-4.

Ashton Massey’s 17 kills led Menno while Joslynn Fischer had 17 set assists. Taylor Freier led the team with 23 kings and Fischer and Lexie McNinch each had 3 aces. Here’s the complete line:

Ashton Massey: 12 kills, 1 block, 3 digs

Joslynn Fischer: 7 kills, 17 set assists, 16 digs, 3 aces

Ellyana Ulmer: 5 kills, 1 block, 17 digs, 2 aces

Lexi McNinch: 5 kills, 2 blocks, 7 digs, 3 aces

Kaelie Derby: 1 kill, 1 block, six set assists, 5 digs

Taylor Freier: 1 kill, 23 digs, 1 ace

Haylee Hall: 1 kill, 1 set assist, 7 digs, 1 ace

Maggie Miller: 13 digs, 1 ace

Bianca Fischer: 1 dig

Amanda Rames: 1 dig
