PHOENIX HANDLE NO. 3 AVON WITH EASE

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy survived its first true test of the season — and then some. Playing against Class 9B No. 3 Avon, the Phoenix jumped out to a 24-12 lead after one and outscored the Pirates 28-6 the rest of the way en route to a 52-18 win at home Friday night, Sept. 1. F/M/FA improved to 3-0 while Avon dropped to 2-1.

Riley Tschetter threw for 268 yards and five touchdown passes, including two to senior tight end Evan Scharberg; and Luke Peters, Rocky Ammann and Karter Weber each ran for a touchdown.

Tate Sorensen had 9 tackles for the Phoenix, and Peters and Weber each had 8. Peters and Dominic Sperling each also recovered a fumble.

F/M/FA is off next Friday but will be back in action in Freeman Friday, Sept. 15 for their homecoming game against Howard.

30-12: Tschetter 19-yard touchdown pass to Evan Scharberg
32-12: Tschetter 3-yard run for 2-point conversion 
38-12: Rocky Ammann 46-yard touchdown run
40-12: Tschetter 3-yard pass to Tate Sorensen for 2-point conversation
46-18: Tschetter 35-yard touchdown pass to Karter Weber
52-18: Weber 60-yard touchdown run
