SEPT. 5 VOLLEYBALL REPORT: FLYERS WIN; ‘CATS, WOLVES LOSE

Freeman 3, Centerville 1

The Freeman High School volleyball won its fourth match in a row with a 3-1 home victory over Centerville Tuesday night, Sept. 5. The Flyers beat the Tornadoes 25-20, 27-25, 21-25, 25-18 to improve to 5-2 on the season. Centerville dropped to 2-5.

Freeman had three players in double figures in kills: Ashlin Jacobsen with 14, Ella Waltner with 12 and Zenovia Butler with 10. Vaida Ammann and Cami Fransen each had 20 set assists and Butler led the team in digs with 14. Waltner added 3 blocks and Fransen had 5 aces.

The Flyers host Gayville-Volin Thursday night, Sept. 7. It’s parent’s night.

FA/Marion 0, Andes Central/Dakota Christian 3

The Bearcats dropped to 0-6 after falling to Andes Central/Dakota Christian on the road Tuesday night. The Cadets beat FA/Marion 25-16, 25-8, 25-14 to improve to 2-4.

Hailey Stahl led the team with 4 kills, Isabelle McConniel had 8 set assists and Emma McConniel had 23 digs for the Bearcats. Kallie Johnson added 8 digs and Harli Ross contributed 3 set assists.

The Bearcats travel to Scotland on Thursday.

Menno 2, Bridgewater-Emery 3

The Menno girls built a 2-0 lead over Bridgewater-Emery but dropped the next three in what was the Wolves’ fourth five-set match of the season. The Huskies won 17-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-11 to improve to 2-1. Menno dropped to 3-5.

Ashton Massey led play up front with 11 kills and 3 blocks. Joslynn Fischer had 6 kills, 17 set assists and 19 digs while Taylor Frier added 6 kills and 16 digs. Maggie Miller and Amanda Rames each had an ace.

Menno hosts Ethan on Thursday.
