PHOTO OF THE DAY: MORNING LIGHT

A worker with NorthWestern Energy, who would not provide his name, moves on after installing one of the historic light fixtures that are now lining Freeman’s Main Street. The installation of 22 new lights along the 400, 300 and 200 block of downtown began Monday and was continuing on Tuesday — more than a year after the new roadway opened to traffic. This is the final portion of the city’s $5.1 million capital project that last year saw the total rebuild of one block of Railway Street, Main Street from Fifth Street to the North County Road, as well as the resurfacing of several adjacent side streets.

The historic lighting was not part of the engineering design by Sayre Associates because the city opted for a less expensive option through NorthWestern Energy. The installation was delayed because of various challenges in the timely arrival of the fixtures.
