FA SOCCER TEAM HOLDS OFF JAMES VALLEY IN 2-1 WIN

Freeman Academy capped off a very good regular season with a 2-1 win over James Valley Christian Saturday afternoon in Freeman in a match that featured two of the longest running high school soccer programs in South Dakota and two teams with a rivalry that goes back to the 1980s.

The Bobcats’ win over the Vikings secures them the No. 4 spot in the postseason that starts this coming week, and while the official bracket has yet to be released, head coach Scott Dent believes Freeman Academy (8-2-2) will host a first-round playoff match against No. 5 Belle Fourche (6-5-1) on Tuesday. Start time is TBD.

Sioux Falls Christian (12-0-2) will be the No. 1 seed while Vermillion (8-3-0) and Tea Area (6-7-0) will fill the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the playoffs.

James Valley Christian (6-6-2) will be the No. 6 seed.

Freeman Academy’s Saturday win over the Vikings came two weeks after the teams played to a 0-0 tie in Huron. This time the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead with under 16 minutes to play in the first half on a goal from Lesther Rocha, who later broke a 1-1 tie with 11 minutes to play in what ended up being the game-winning goal.
