NEW: XC RUNNERS HEAD TO BURKE OCT. 11

Cross-country teams from Freeman Academy/Marion, Freeman Public and Menno will make the two-hour trek west to Burke next Wednesday, Oct. 11 for the Region 3B meet. Action begins at 2 p.m., with the top 20 runners in both the girls and boys varsity races advancing to the state meet in Sioux Falls Saturday, Oct. 21. In addition, teams that finish in the top three in the final standings will take full squads — up to five runners — to state.

All three local teams have runners who are set up to advance. Both the Freeman Academy/Marion and Freeman Public boys have been running strong, as has Freeman Academy sophomore Estelle Waltner and Menno senior Ashton Massey.

Massey is a five-time state cross-country meet qualifier and was this year’s Cornbelt Conference champion.

In addition to the Bearcats, Flyers and Wolves, teams in Region 3B include:

  • Andes Central/Dakota Christian
  • Avon
  • Bridgewater-Emery
  • Canistota
  • Corsica-Stickney
  • Gregory
  • Marty
  • Mitchell Christian
  • Scotland
  • Tripp-Delmont/Armour
