PHOTO OF THE DAY: THE WAY IT WAS
This photo was taken in the late 1960s, when the Freeman community was developing to the east. It was taken looking to the southwest and features the St. Paul Lutheran church in the lower right corner, which was dedicated in 1963. The street that runs diagonally from left to right is Albert Street, the primary residential development at the time. College Street (which meets Albert at the corner) had yet to be extended and Wynken Drive had yet to be built. And the lots adjacent to the housing toward the top of the photo would become the Freeman Public School campus starting in the 1970s; a football field was built first with the junior-senior high school opening in 1975.
