FHS GIRLS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN OVER PLATTE-GEDDES

The Freeman High School girls basketball team opened its 2023-24 season with an impressive win over Class A Platte-Geddes in Platte Tuesday night, Dec. 5, downing the Black Panthers 66-55.

The Flyers never trailed, opened up a double-digit lead in the second quarter and never allowed Platte-Geddes closer than seven points thereafter. Freeman led 22-16 after the first quarter, 40-30 at the half and then outscored the Black Panthers 26-25 the rest of the way.

Seniors Ashlin Jacobsen and Cami Fransen had 21 and 19 points, respectively, and junior point guard Peyton McCune tallied 17 points to help lead the way.

Freeman travels to Hurley Friday night in a doubleheader with the boys to face the two-time defending Class B champion Cougars.
