PETERS, SORENSEN LEAD FHS BOYS; GIRLS WIN TOO

Sophomores Luke Peters and Tate Sorensen teamed up for 36 points as the Freeman boys broke away from Irene-Wakonda late en route to a 72-59 win in Irene Tuesday night, Jan. 2. The Flyers improved to 2-3 with the victory while the Eagles dropped to 07. Sorensen also controlled the boards with 15 rebounds and had two blocked shots while Peters added four steals.

In addition the strong showing from the sophomores, senior Rocky Ammann and junior Chris Aasen each scored 10 points, and Aasen added four assists and three steals.

The Flyers travel to Bridgewater-Emery in a doubleheader with the girls on Thursday.

FHS GIRLS 57, IRENE-WAKONDA 44

The girls also scored a win in Irene on Thursday night, battling back from a slow start to take down the Eagles 57-44. The Flyers trailed 27-26 at the half but outscored Irene-Wakonda 15-6 in the third quarter en route to the double-digit win. Freeman improved to 5-1 while the Eagles dropped to 0-7.

Senior Ashlin Jacobsen paced the Flyers with 19 points and freshman Rylee Peters added 13 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists. Sophomore Vaida Ammann also had a strong game with eight points, eight rebounds and four steals.
