FHS BOYS, GIRLS OUTLAST BRIDGEWATER-EMERY

Tate Sorensen, Rocky Ammann and Luke Peters were all in double-figures with 17, 14 and 12 points, respectively, as the Freeman boys outlasted Bridgewater-Emery in a fast-paced and physical Cornbelt Conference battle in Emery Tuesday night, Jan. 4.

The Flyers won 54-48 to improve to 3-3 while the Huskies dropped to 3-5.

Bridgewater-Emery opened up a 10-point lead early, but Freeman stormed back to lead 31-24 at the half and 44-36 after three quarters. The Huskies trimmed that lead 49-48 with just under a minute to play, but an Ammann three-pointer with 20 seconds to play made it a two-possession game and Freeman hung on for the six-point win.

FHS girls 59, BE 48

A big first quarter and a solid fourth helped lift the Freeman girls to a 59-48 Cornbelt Conference win over Bridgewater-Emery in Emery Thursday night, Jan. 4. The win improved the Flyers to 6-1 while the Huskies dropped to 3-4.

Freeman led 18-6 after the first quarter but were outscored 32-25 in the second and third quarters before finishing the game on a 16-10 run. Freshman Rylee Peters had 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting while senior Ashlin Jacobsen scored 18 points on 7-of-21 shooting. Vaida Ammann had five steals and Peters added seven rebounds anmd three assists to lead Freeman.
