FLYERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST BON HOMME

Sophomore Luke Peters and eighth grader David Walter each scored 13 points and sophomore Tate Sorensen added 11 as the Freeman boys handled Bon Homme with ease in a home doubleheader with the girls Saturday afternoon.

The Flyers won 65-33 to improve to 10-4; it was Freeman’s ninth win in the past 10 games.

The Cavaliers, who play in Class A, dropped to 6-8.

Freeman led 14-10 after the first quarter but outscored Bon Homme 25-7 in the second period to pull away.

Senior Rocky Ammann had six rebounds and two blocked shots for the Flyers, who travel to Hanson (8-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

FHS girls 48, Bon Homme 52

The Freeman Public girls allowed just 17 points in the second half but still came up short against Bon Homme in Freeman Saturday afternoon, largely because of the Cavaliers’ strong first quarter.

Bon Homme led 23-17 after the first eight minutes and 33-25 at the half before a Flyers’ defensive adjustment brought them back into the game; it was a one-possession with less than a minute to play, but the Cavaliers hung on for a 52-48 win.

Bon Homme improved to 9-4 while Freeman dropped to 12-3.

The Flyers got 11 points from senior Cami Fransen and 10 points and four steals from freshman Rylee Peters. Sophomore Vaida Ammann had three assists and four steals.

Freeman plays Gregory (1-11) at the Corn Palace Monday, Feb. 5 and Hanson (12-3) on Tuesday.
