BEARCATS

FA/Marion girls 21, AC/DC 49

The Freeman Academy/Marion girls dropped to 3-13 with a 49-21 loss to Andes Central in Marion Thursday night. The Thunder, who improved to 10-6, led 17-1 after the first period and 31-3 at the half.

Alexa Gortmaker and Avery Thomas scored seven and five points, respectively, while Sieta Wiersema had 10 rebounds and Estelle Waltner added eight. The Bearcats close out their regular season at Alcester-Hudson on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and at Menno on Feb. 15.

FA/Marion boys 42, AC/DC 57

Karter Weber socred 13 points and Liam Ortman went for nine points and seven rebounds in a 57-42 loss to Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thursday night in Marion. The Bearcats dropped to 5-11 while the Thunder improved to 5-10.

Jackson Donlan also scored nine points to go along with four assists, four steals and four rebounds while Blake Rumelhart added a pair of steals. The FA/Marion boys travel to Alcester-Hudson Tuesday before closing out their regular season at Menno on Thursday.

FLYERS

FHS boys 64, Corsica-Stickney 32

Rocky Ammann and Tate Sorensen each put up 14 points and Chris Aasen added another 12 as the Freeman boys handled Corsica-Stickney with ease at home, winning 64-32 to improve to 11-5. The Jaguars dropped to 9-5.

Sorensen added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with his point total while Ammann also had three assists and four steals. Luke Peters also had three assists for the Flyers, who play Lower Brule at 10:30 a.m. at the Corn Palace as part of the DWU Classic.

WOLVES

Menno girls 29, Centerville 68

Centerville, Class B’s second-ranked team, opened up a 22-9 lead after the first quarter en route to a 68-29 win in girls basketball action Centerville Thursday night. The win dropped the Wolves to 1-14 on the season while the Tornadoes improved to 15-2.

Kaelie Derby the way in the scoring column for Menno with 12 points, while Lexie McNinch went for seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Ashton Massey had six points and six rebounds and Nora Robb collected three rebounds, three assists and three steals for Menno, which travels to Bridgewater-Emery Saturday, Feb. 10 before hosting Andes Central/Dakota Christian Monday, Feb. 12.

Menno boys 30, Centerville 57

Izayah Ulmer had 17 points, three assists and two steals in Menno’s loss to Centerville in boys basketball non-conference action on Thursday. The Tornadoes won 57-30 to improve to 10-5 while the Wolves dropped to 1-15.

In addition to Ulmer’s production, Erick Buechler and Tate Spencer each had five rebounds, while Buechler added a blocked shots and Spencer three steals.

Next week will be a busy week for the Menno boys as they host Andes Central/Dakota Monday, Feb. 12, Freeman Academy/Marion on Tuesday and then Freeman Academy/Marion on Thursday.
