PHOTO OF THE DAY: SERVING UP SCHMECKFEST

Corey Miller, a community naive, rural Freeman resident and pastor of the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, loads up a serving bowl of green bean soup as he serves a table during Friday night’s Schmeckfest supper. Just under 1,000 guests took in the traditional German meal on the first night of the 63rd “festival of tasting,” which also included a host of food and artisan demonstrations and sales inside Sterling Hall, the school’s maintenance building next door, and Heritage Hall Museum & Archives, as well as an evening performance of “Shrek the Musical.” Schmeckfest concludes today; the meal is sold out as is all reserved seating for the show.
