Rick Haeuszer, 68

Rick Haeuszer, 68, of Freeman, S.D., passed away on March 20, 2024 at his residence under hospice care and surrounded by his loved ones. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 28 at Walter Funeral Home in Freeman from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Richard “Rick” Wayne Haeuszer was born on Aug. 14, 1955, in Wagner, S.D., to Vernon and Frances (Broderson) Haeuszer. Rick was known for his generosity and always being there for others in their time of need, and his passion for fireworks.

Rick attended Tripp High School in Tripp, S.D. He married Laurel Stirling on July 16, 1976 and moved to Freeman. There they welcomed their two children, Christopher and Kimberly.

He dedicated his career to working at Case IH Dealerships intermittently since the age of 18, retiring from Sioux International in Freeman in May of 2023. He also ran a few businesses in Freeman, including Main Video, Car Quest, and the firework stand. In his free time, he liked to spend time fishing, bowling and watching TV with his cats (Copper and Max).

Those remaining to cherish his life are his wife, Laurel; children Christopher (Sandi) Haeuszer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Kimberly (Vincent) Smith of Larchwood, Iowa; grandchildren Keegan Rotert, Walker Haeuszer, Easton Smith, Topher Haeuszer, Camden Smith and Elodie Smith; two sisters, Verna Ehresmann, Brookings, S.D., and Bea (Butch) Holec, Rapid City, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter Angelia Haeuszer, parents Vernon and Frances Haeuszer, sisters JoEllen Diehl, and Bobbie Roberts.

Rick will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
