LOCAL VOTERS HEAD TO THE POLLS APRIL 9

Tuesday’s election will feature 5 races — 4 in Freeman and 1 in Marion

City Hall in Freeman and the American Legion in Marion will be the polling places for the local city and school elections set for next week Tuesday, April 9. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Registered voters will weigh in on five races: Freeman mayor and Ward I and Ward 3 council representatives, Freeman School Board, and Marion School Board.

Sample ballots are published on pages 6-7A of this week’s Courier.

For mayor of Freeman, incumbent Michael D. Walter is seeking his third-consecutive two-year term and is being challenged by Cody Fransen; all registered voters living in the city of Freeman are eligable to vote;

In Ward 1, incumbent Charles Gering is being challenged by Erin Lachman; Gering has served consecutive terms on the Freeman City Council  since being appointed in the fall of 2015. Only those living in Ward 1 may vote in this race.

In Ward 3, Terry Jacobsen and Shelly Wanninger are both looking to finish the term held by Tabitha Schoenwald who resigned from the city council late last year. Only registered voters living in Ward 3 may vote in this race.

A ward map for the city of Freeman is printed on page 12A

Freeman’s school board election features incumbents Emily Andersen and Doug McCune being challenged for their seat by Chris Sayler; all registered voters living in the Freeman School District may vote for up to two candidates.

And for Marion School Board, incumbents Scott Tieszen and Jared Schmidt are being challenged by Kyle Gossen and Dave Pankratz for two upcoming vacancies on the school board. All registered voters living in the Marion School District may cast their ballots for up to two of the candidates.

A Q&A with all the candidates was published in the March 28 issue of The Courier and are available at freemansd.com. Results will be posted there, as well, next Tuesday night.
