Larry Weber, 79

Larry Weber, 79, went peacefully to his heavenly home on April 23, 2024, at the Dougherty Hospice House, after gracefully battling Lewy body dementia for many years.

The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 211 S. Church Ave, Montrose, S.D. Visitation with the family present will be held on Wednesday, May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Wake Service at 7 p.m., also at the church. A private burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Larry Joseph Weber was born Sept. 9, 1944, to Raymond and Avis (Joens) Weber in Sioux Falls, S.D. Larry graduated from Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School in 1962, in the first graduating class of that school. He was united in marriage to Ann Sundermann on Aug. 31, 1963. They moved their family to Montrose in 1975, where they made their home on an acreage. Larry was diligent in continuously improving their land and home, planting countless trees and building a new home when the original farmhouse was destroyed in a fire. Larry worked extremely hard to provide for his family of nine children throughout his life. He had a long career in the construction industry, serving as a foreman for many years with Souter and Sons, Inc. During the prime of his life, he spent much of his free time as an umpire for softball in the Sioux Falls area, adding extra income to their household. He earned much respect and made many lifelong friendships.

Larry was active in their community, serving on the Montrose School Board and helping out with projects at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, pheasant hunting with his brothers, children, and nephews, along with any projects where he could work outside with his loved ones. He followed many sports and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their many activities. Larry loved to spend time with family and friends, sharing so many stories, drinks, memories and laughs over the years. When his wife Ann battled cancer at the end of her life, Larry was an extremely devoted caregiver.

Larry is survived by 9 children: Jim (Christie) Weber of Elizabeth, Colo.; Dan (Cathy) Weber of Baltic, S.D.; Kristina (Curtis) Sage of Freeman, S.D.; Julie (Shawn) Carolan of Larchwood, Iowa; David (Raela) Weber; Steven (Melissa) Weber of Canistota, S.D.; Bill (Jenny) Weber of Montrose; Jessica (Neil) Andal of Brookings, S.D., and Patrick Weber of Brookings. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Weber, his parents, and two brothers.

A special thank you to Dr. Kirton and the Dougherty Hospice House staff for their compassionate support and dignified care.
