LOCAL GOLFERS QUALIFY FOR STATE

The Freeman High School boys golf team and Freeman Academy junior Jada Buse will all be taking part in the 2024 State Golf Meet in Brookings Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4. All qualified at the Region 3B Tournament played at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford on Monday, May 20.

Buse earned her spot in what will be her third state meet by finishing second in the girls field with a 94. Claire Berg of Baltic won the individual title with a 91 and the Bulldogs were Region 3B champions as a team.

For the Flyers, all four boys earned their spot in Brookings with top-20 finishes and also as a team with a second-place showing. Tannen Auch placed third with an 87, Thor Aanenson was ninth with a 91, Alaric Knittel placed 10th with a 93 and Oliver Waltner finished 13th with a 95. There were 50 golfers in the field.

Auch, Knittel and Waltner are all freshman while Aanenson is a sophomore.

This will be Auch’s third state golf meet and Aanenson and Knittel were also both part of last year’s state-qualifying team.

The FHS boys’ cumulative score of 55-over-par on Monday was one stroke short of what would have been their second consecutive region title. Centerville finished with a 54-over-par to win the 3B championship.
