79ERS TO MAKE BASEBALL DEBUT FRIDAY NIGHT

A brand-new baseball team will make its debut Friday night, June 7 in Menno when the Scotland/Menno/Freeman 79ers takes the field against Alexandria in a game scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The 79ers are playing as a Post 152 affiliate with American Legion (18u) baseball.

The team is coached by three established head coaches from each community: Kory Foss of Menno, Joe Keppen of Scotland and Dustin Tschetter of Freeman, who put the team together last year in advance of the 2024 summer baseball season. The name 79ers was chosen because the railroad first established all three towns as stops in 1879.

Scotland/Menno and Freeman will continue to play VFW baseball at the 16u, 14u, 12u and 10u level as the Trappers and Sticks.
